What Are The Things That A Franchisor Will Look For In A Franchisee?

The first thing that a franchisor will look at in a candidate is whether or not that individual has the capital and finances necessary to buy the franchise. There are many would-be entrepreneurs whose dreams are never realized simply because they lack the sufficient funds. As mentioned above, there will be certain financial benchmarks required by the franchisor that can't be avoided.

Once the financial hurdles have been cleared, a franchisor will then focus on some common traits that they look for in a franchisee. We defined those traits previously in the section entitled, Would I make a good Franchisee? They are people skills, management skills, work ethic, and the ability to follow a system.

These traits are intertwined and candidates deficient in one of these areas run a higher percentage of not being awarded a license as a franchisee. Remember, the franchisor is putting their reputation on the line each time a franchise is awarded. An unsuccessful franchisee costs time and money and in some instances, can prevent the franchisor from opening future units in the area territory. Therefore, most franchisors are extremely selective when awarding new franchises.
